SecturaFAB - What's NEW – January 2024
Introduction:
We are excited to introduce the latest version of SecturaFAB, Version 2024.01.17.9. In response to user feedback and a commitment to continuous improvement, this release focuses on enhancing the quoting experience, particularly in the realm of 2D Milling Operations. In addition to 2D Milling enhancements, we have addressed a couple of bug fixes to fortify the stability of the software. We understand the pivotal role accurate quoting plays in your workflow, and with this update, we aim to elevate your precision and efficiency.
Read on to explore what's new:
- 2D Milling Feature
- In this SecturaFAB update, we're thrilled to unveil a host of new features and refined enhancements that seamlessly converge, providing an enhanced solution for quoting and estimating 3-Axis machined parts. Whether machining serves as the primary or secondary operation in your workflow, SecturaFAB is now adept at accommodating both scenarios, while also introducing advanced capabilities like mapping tools directly to geometry for enhanced precision.
-
- Prior to delving into the features and enhancements, we recommend consulting and reviewing our latest Knowledgebase articles focused on 2D Milling for valuable insights
-
- New Feature Highlights:
- Primary Milling Tool Dropdown
- When adding an item to your quote, if you select a machine that is linked to a milling operation, you will see a new Tool Dropdown. This dropdown is to select the primary tool used to process that part. This means that tool will be applied to all geometry that is not assigned to another tool. The tool will be applied as a contour usage on your quote.
- Mapping Tools to Geometry
- We have added the ability to map tools to geometry. If multiple tools are used to machine the part, you are quoting you can now visit the Edit Part window. If you are using a milling machine, you will notice a new Tool dropdown at the top of the selection list on the left
- To apply a tool simply select the geometry and click the + next to the tool selection. You will notice the geometry change color letting you know it was accepted.
- Drill / Drill & Tap Tool Matching
- Much like tool mapping explained above you can map circle geometry to tools using the generic Drill or Drill & Tap button. As long as you have a matching tool in your tool file (within a 0.01” tolerance) that tool or tools will be automatically assigned to the geometry.
- Tool File Management
- Explained in detail in the Knowledgebase article “Deciphering SecturaFAB Tool Files”, tool files have been simplified but also enhanced. Now the only variable you need is your tool’s feedrate to begin building your tool file. This update also allows you to control cutting feedrate by material type. With this update you no longer need to populate a cutting speed file.

- New Feature Highlights:
- New End User License Agreement (EULA)
- After log-in all users will see the screen below pop up and are required to accept the EULA. Once accepted you can always view or download the EULA by navigating to the Setup page under Users & Permission -> Licensing. If you have any questions regarding this document please contact our Customer Success team at help@secturasoft.com.
- Warning Added for Sending a Quote via Email Without a Recipient
- In this release, neglecting to specify a recipient when sending a quote via email prompts a helpful message: "Please specify at least one recipient." In earlier versions, the window would erroneously signal success and close without validation. This correction guarantees that valid recipients are entered, mitigating the possibility of inadvertently sending a quote with blank or invalid recipient information.
- Bug Fix: Updating an Item with Invalid Inventory
- In the current version of SecturaFAB, users receive notifications when attempting to add a line item to a quote without corresponding product inventory in the specified location. In the previous iteration, a bug prevented this warning from occurring when editing the line item. This update addresses that bug, providing a seamless experience and ensuring you have complete and consistent control over the items added to your quote.
- Bug Fix: Server Error Clicking Machine File Link Inside the Machine Page
- This build resolved an issue when clicking on the link “Machine File” at the top of any Machine File edit screen. The button will now return you to the Machine File Index Page as intended.
- Process Location Enhancement to Consider Quote Level Setting
- With this update a line item will reference its process location from the top level of the quote if the assigned equipment is not tied to a process location. However, if the equipment is tied to a process location that location will take precedence like it has. This allows you more flexibility in how that field is populated for your line items.
- Bug Fix: Customer Supplied Material Checkbox Stuck On
- We want to inform you about an important fix we've implemented in the latest release to address an issue related to the Customer Supplied Material checkbox. Some users were experiencing a situation where the checkbox was randomly defaulting to the "on" state and couldn't be turned off as intended. This release includes the solution to that problem.
- IGES File Support
- This update to SecturaFAB now includes support for IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) files. This enhancement is designed to provide our users with increased flexibility and compatibility, allowing for seamless integration of IGES files into their workflows. These files can now be imported along with any other supported file type using the CAD Files workflow.
